We are currently recruiting for a HMRC Liaison to join our existing Risk & Compliance team. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for managing the successful outcome of enquired claims for Innovation tax reliefs, including R&D tax relief, RDEC and Patent Box. The focus of this role will be achieving a high degree of accuracy and compliance with legislation and HMRC guidance, and the management of enquiry risk. 

The role involves working closely with all of our internal teams, including our dedicated industry technical specialists, and will play a key part in ensuring the quality and accuracy of submissions to HMRC.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review of complex technical arguments regarding the inclusion of items in particular cost categories
• Managing enquiries and guiding consultants/clients in enquiry responses
• Advice to consultants on how to make estimates/structure claims when deviating from the standard methods.
• Technical training for consultants/compliance team
• Calculation and technical narrative reviews for complex submissions
• Point of contact/technical expert for ad-hoc queries from consultants
• Contribution to design of updated templates/processes
• Acting as a 2^nd in command/deputising for Head of Compliance

Experience Required:

• Current background in R&D, with experience in reviewing/submission of claim reports and interaction with HMRC/enquiry support
• Excellent attention to detail and able to identify improvements to processes
• Confidence in defending enquiries with HMRC and able to articulate persuasively and effectively
• Self-starter approach and mindset
